Experience a Sustainable Living Working Farm
Come and experience a sustainable living, working farm. The farms have been in the family from 1945 but some of the old ruins and rock enclosures date back to the 1800s. There are also some fossils and old bushmen drawings.
They farm mainly with Merino sheep, Angora goats and also some cows. Roaming wild on the farm there are Springbok, Blesbok and Gemsbok. The cows provide milk for the family which is used to make cheese and yogurt as well. Around the farm house they have an abundance of fruit and nut trees, vineyards, olive trees and a vegetable garden. All excess produce is bottled for later use. They do have a Shiraz vineyard as well which they use to make their own wine. Olive oil is also bottled. The happy chickens produce eggs to ensure for hearty breakfast.
Life on the farm is hard work, but if you do what you love then it’s all fun. You can join them and see what a working sustainable farm is all about. Some of the activities available are:
- Horse riding
- Picnic in the veld
- Experience how sheep and goats are shorn
- Do a short walking route with more than 70 Karoo plant species to see
- See how wood sawing was done by hand while standing in a hole.
- Go for a hike in the veld to see the old rock houses and fossils
- Experience beautiful sunsets from the hilltop.
- Enjoy the vast space and tranquility of the Karoo open spaces.
